Celebrating Success Stories from METRO Shine: Empowering Young People through Support and Community

The Young Greenwich LGBTQ+ youth groups, run by METRO Charity, offer young people the chance to build healthy, age-appropriate relationships they might not otherwise have access to. These groups, including METRO Shine and METRO Zest, create a space for connection, self-expression, and growth.

Two members of METRO Zest, both 15 years old, shared their personal journey, saying, "Without METRO, we would never have met, and we wouldn't be together. METRO is like Cupid!" Their story highlights how METRO not only provides support but also fosters lasting connections that change lives.

One inspiring story comes from a member of METRO Shine, who has recently aged out of the service after eight years of participation. This young person started their journey with METRO feeling socially isolated, with few friends and little hope for the future. However, after years of support from METRO Shine, they leave with a strong group of friends, a deeper connection to their community, and newfound self-confidence.

Through their involvement in METRO Shine, this young person gained valuable work experience, including hosting an art exhibition and helping with event planning for METRO's annual Youth Pride event and Winter Prom. These experiences not only provided career skills but also gave this individual a sense of purpose and belonging, marking a transformational chapter in their life.

METRO Shine continues to make a lasting impact on young people's lives by providing a safe, inclusive space where they can thrive and develop the skills they need for a bright future.
