On Saturday, March 29th, we had an amazing day out at Godstone Farm, bringing together 52 parents and young people from Thamesmead and the local community. This wonderful trip, organised by Moorings Residents Community Group, Friends of Hawksmoor, and Hawksmoor Youth Hub (Young Greenwich) in partnership with Peabody, gave families the chance to enjoy a fun, educational, and active day in nature!
From the moment the 52-seater coach set off, excitement filled the air! Families eagerly anticipated a day packed with farmyard fun, learning about animals, and plenty of outdoor activities. The trip aimed to encourage physical exercise, improve mental well-being, and provide a unique educational experience—especially for families who may not always have access to such opportunities.
At the farm, children and parents had the chance to see, touch, and learn about farm animals—from fluffy chicks to friendly goats! Learning about the life cycle of small animals and how to care for them was a highlight for many, sparking curiosity and excitement.
The day wasn’t just about learning, though—it was also about bringing the community together. Families played, explored, and shared experiences, making memories that will last a lifetime.
The trip received a range of positive feedback from parents and young people. One of the parents, C. Webb, attended with her eight children, and her eldest daughter, Brooke (16), helped out with the younger siblings. She shared her heartfelt thanks:
"Just want to say a big thank u for the amazing day u have put on for our lucky kids. We loved the time we spent with you all—it’s been an amazing, fun-filled day with parents joining in! If it wasn’t for you, this would not have been possible. The fun we all had was amazing! Thank you again—we loved it and hope for many more of these days coming in the summer!"
A huge thank you to all the organisers, staff, volunteers and our funders at Peabody who made this trip possible. It was truly a fantastic day filled with laughter, learning, and community spirit.
We can’t wait to plan more trips like this in the future—stay tuned for more exciting events this summer!
