On Saturday 26th of November, our young people enjoyed an event held in honour of Trans Day of Remembrance. This event was open to all Metro young people, and created space to celebrate and commemorate trans community and identity.
There was a range of activities held throughout the day. The main event was a Gender Affirming Clothes Swap. Young people were encouraged to donate their pre-loved clothes, and we were also able to secure a large number of donations from Metro staff. The clothes swap took place on a good-faith basis, with our young people supporting, encouraging and affirming one another through style to try new looks and get creative. We also held a trans-inclusive and affirming workshop, focused on listening to and caring for your body as a trans person. This workshop also spoke about binding and how to bind safely. We were extremely lucky to have 2 special guests at this event present at this event also - 2 LGBTQ+ Make Up artists! Young people were able to access tips and advice when it comes to make up, and even be given a makeover if they wanted!
In addition to the events and workshops being run, there was time for young people to sit and relax with their friends over refreshments, all in an environment specifically created to celebrate and affirm trans individuals and communities – and invaluable space to be carved out in a world that is often unsafe for Trans people!
Overall, the event was a huge success, with beautiful feedback being given by our young people about the day.
Have a look at some amazing pictures from the event.
