On Saturday 30 October over 100 people celebrated our youth service after two years since the last in-person celebration. The event took place at The Valley with a range of activities stationed around our Family Activity Zone and the West Stand. Many new members were welcomed to opportunities provided by the Young Greenwich Partnership of Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) and Metro Charity delivered on behalf of the Royal Borough of Greenwich (RBG).
Surprisingly given the forecast, the weather was in our favour this year. Youth hub staff also came to support the day with their great musical choices and energy. New Charlton Athletic mascots Floyd and Harvey were in attendance in Young Greenwich t-shirts.
Young Greenwich members were also joined by our partners from Champions 4 Change who came with their boxing tips and tricks whilst Metro Judo Club displayed their skilful and energetic talents. The Young Greenwich Sexual Health team were also present delivering an exceptional amount of information which was a great opportunity for members to receive advice.
It was great to welcome Cllr Danny Thorpe, Leader of RBG, along with commissioners and councillors. It was a delight to see him supporting us and taking part in various activities, showcasing the fun and enjoyable services that we deliver to young people who live, work or study in the Borough throughout the year. We'd like to express our gratitude to RBG who also gifted us 15 brand new laptops for our young people that will enhance their education and development.
The afternoon ended with our members attending the match against Doncaster. And what a perfect match to attend as CAFC won 4-0! It was a brilliant experience for our new and existing members. Toni Adeoye, Young Greenwich's Marketing and Outreach Officer said:
"I was so pleased with the turnout of Young Greenwich Day, it was such a wonderful event for everyone. With the challenging times we've faced it was great to see our young people filled with excitement and energy throughout the day".
A big thank you to everyone who attended the day and we hope to enjoy celebrations which are just as big next year.
