Councillors Visit Hawksmoor Youth Hub for Inspiring Family Session

28th Jan, 2025 12:05pm

On Friday, 24th January, Hawksmoor Youth Hub had the pleasure of welcoming Cllr Averil Lekau, Deputy Leader of Royal Greenwich, and Cllr Anne-Marie Cousins to one of their vibrant family sessions. Funded by Groundwork’s Greenwich Healthier Communities, these sessions aim to bring families in the community together in a welcoming space to engage in activities, share a meal, and discover opportunities for growth and support.

During their visit, the councillors were given a tour of the recently renovated youth hub. The tour showcased the hub's incredible facilities, including a fully equipped music studio, versatile classrooms, and other dedicated activity spaces. These resources encourage creativity, learning, and collaboration for the young people and families who use the hub.

The family session itself was packed with meaningful activities. Families participated in a dental health care workshop, enjoyed fun sports-based activities, and shared a nutritious, freshly prepared meal cooked by our dedicated staff and volunteers. A highli

ght of the evening was seeing Cllr Cousins join in on a game of basketball, impressing everyone with her skills and enthusiasm.

Reflecting on her visit, Cllr Cousins shared, “It’s absolutely wonderful that young people have the freedom to be creative here, and it’s amazing that parents have opportunities to study and learn in this space. This is exactly what a community hub should look like.”

Family sessions at Hawksmoor Youth Hub aim to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for families. The sessions encourage families to bond, learn, and have fun together, while also providing access to key services and resources.

We are incredibly grateful to Cllr Lekau and Cllr Cousins for taking the time to visit and engage with the community. Their support highlights the importance of these sessions and the impact they have on families across the borough.

Family sessions take place every Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, Tuesday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and Friday from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at Hawksmoor Youth Hub. For more information, please contact Claire Hallinan, Hawksmoor Unit Manager, at 07711 493272.
